T’oros Roslin Gospels
Hromkla, Cilician Armenia · 1262 · Armenian · W.539
Signed by T’oros Roslin, the most celebrated Armenian painter of the Middle Ages, and made in 1262 at Hromkla, the seat of the head of the Armenian Church in Cilicia, for a priest also named T’oros. Besides the Evangelists, it tells the Gospel story in pictures — full pages, half pages and small scenes beside the text. It is the richest of the seven known books that bear his name.
