多雷把這幅插圖的一大半留給了煙：一根巨大的黑色煙柱從城中升起，鋪滿天空。刻版師的名字Trichon在右下角。
前景的山上，一群騎者望著大火，其中一人披著鎧甲，一個拿矛的步行者在對他們說話。下面，一行行持矛的士兵穿過平原，遠處兩軍在燃燒的城牆附近交戰。
