古斯塔夫·多雷把這一幅畫作《La Sainte Bible》（法文《聖經》）的開卷插圖。這部《聖經》1866年由阿爾弗雷德·馬姆在圖爾出版，附有約230幅整頁版畫。右下角署名的Henri Pisan把這幅畫稿刻在一塊黃楊木端面木版上。
這時還沒有地，只有雲和黑暗的水。高高的天上，一位身穿長袍、留著鬍鬚的人物舉起一隻手臂，他身旁迸射出一扇光芒。光芒中明亮的線條是留下未刻的白色木面。
