古斯塔夫·多雷把这一幅画作《La Sainte Bible》（法文《圣经》）的开卷插图。这部《圣经》1866年由阿尔弗雷德·马姆在图尔出版，附有约230幅整页版画。右下角署名的Henri Pisan把这幅画稿刻在一块黄杨木端面木版上。
这时还没有地，只有云和黑暗的水。高高的天上，一位身穿长袍、留着胡须的人物举起一只手臂，他身旁迸射出一扇光芒。光芒中明亮的线条是留下未刻的白色木面。
