The Kiss of Judas (Le baiser de Judas)
James Tissot · 1886–1894
Brooklyn Museum, New York
On a dark path, Judas in a brown cloak has come up close to Jesus and kisses him, a lantern hanging from his hand. Jesus, in a grey-white robe, stands still and stretches one arm out to the side.
Behind him the disciples crowd together in alarm. At the left, in the black shadows of the bushes, the faces and weapons of the waiting men can just be seen.
