In the Bible

Israel came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and camped there by the waters; from Elim they camped by the Red Sea.

Exod 15:27Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there by the waters.
Num 33:9–10They set out from Marah and came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there. They set out from Elim and camped by the Red Sea.

Tradition

One view places Elim in this valley with its water and tamarisks; another follows the early monks who put it at Raithu, now El Tor, farther south.

Here today

A desert valley with springs, palms and tamarisks where the coastal road crosses it.
