Christ Appears on the Shore of Lake Tiberias (Apparition du Christ sur les bords du lac de Tibériade)
James Tissot · 1886–1894
Brooklyn Museum, New York
Early morning on the Sea of Galilee: the water is still and silver-grey, the hills on the far shore are soft in the mist. A boat with the disciples standing in it lies a little way out.
On the stony beach in the foreground Jesus stands in white with his arms raised, calling to them. Behind him a thin column of smoke rises from a small fire on the shore.
