The Healing of Ten Lepers (Guérison de dix lépreux)
James Tissot · 1886–1894
Brooklyn Museum, New York
Outside a village spread over a hillside, the lepers have come out on the grass and stones and cry out to Jesus from a distance. Tissot showed them as people with bandaged hands and feet, kneeling, crawling and stretching up their arms.
Jesus stands at the left in white with one hand raised, his disciples behind him. A water jug and small bowls lie on the ground among the sick.
