Judas Returns the Money (Judas rend l'argent)
James Tissot · 1886–1894
Brooklyn Museum, New York
Between the heavy painted columns of the Temple, Judas whirls round in a red-brown cloak and flings the money away from him. Coins fly through the air and scatter over the pale stone floor.
His face is twisted, his arm high. In the background the priests and elders stand among the columns in their dark robes and look on.
