Dürer cut this sheet of the Apocalypse around 1496–98; the impression is from the 1511 edition.
A richly dressed woman sits on the seven-headed beast and holds up a golden cup to a crowd of townspeople in the dress of Dürer’s day, one of them on his knees. Behind her the city burns, an angel throws a millstone into the sea, and an army of riders comes out of heaven.
