Venerable Timothy of Symbola in Bithynia

Timothy was a monk of the monastery of Symbola near Mount Olympus in Bithynia and a disciple of its archimandrite Theoctistus, under whom St Plato the Confessor also learned the monastic life. From his youth he lived in strict fasting and spent whole nights in prayer, and he had vowed never to look at a woman's face. For many years he wandered alone through mountains and deserts, praying constantly, and his Life tells that many sick people were healed through his prayers. He died in deep old age in 795.
