Venerable Pimen of Ugresh
Commemorated: August 30 (August 17, Old Style)
Life
Pimen (Pyotr Myasnikov, 1810–1880) was the son of a wealthy merchant of Vologda. He entered the Kirillo-Novoozersky monastery in 1832 and two years later followed his abbot Hilarion to the St Nicholas monastery at Ugresha near Moscow. He ran the monastery from 1852 and was its abbot from 1853, when it adopted a common life. Under him the poor house was rebuilt: he put up five churches, consecrated by Metropolitan Philaret of Moscow, and began the Transfiguration Cathedral shortly before his death on 17 August 1880. He was canonized in 2004.
