Martyr Myron the Presbyter of Cyzicus

Commemorated: August 30 (August 17, Old Style)

Life

Myron was a priest of a wealthy and noble family who served in Achaia, in Greece, under Emperor Decius. According to his Life, when the governor Antipater broke into the church on the feast of the Nativity to seize the Christians gathered there, Myron rebuked him openly. He was arrested and tortured with iron combs and fire; the Life tells that the fire of the furnace did not harm him and that a strip of his own skin, cut from him, he threw in the governor's face. He was taken to Cyzicus and beheaded there in 250.
