St. Artemon (Menignus) the Bishop of Seleucia
Commemorated: April 6 (March 24, Old Style)
Life
Artemon was a native of Seleucia in Pisidia, in Asia Minor, and lived in the time of the apostles. According to the tradition retold by St Dimitry of Rostov, when the apostle Paul came to the city he found Artemon outstanding among its citizens for his good deeds and made him the first bishop of Seleucia. Artemon cared especially for widows, orphans and the poor, and died in deep old age, in the 1st or 2nd century.
Retold briefly in our own words from: the Lives of the Saints by St Dimitry of Rostov (1902–1916).
