Life

The Belogorsky St Nicholas monastery stood on Belaya Gora, the White Mountain, in the Osa district of the Perm region. Its founder and first abbot, Archimandrite Barlaam (Konoplev, 1858–1918), settled there in 1893, and the brotherhood was recognized by the Synod in 1897. In August 1918, during the Civil War, the Bolsheviks arrested Barlaam and the most active monks and took them away; according to the accounts of the time, they were tortured to death and their bodies thrown into the Kama. Barlaam and the twenty-six monks, deacons and novices killed with him were canonized in 2000.
