New Hieroconfessor Theodosius, bishop of Kolomensk
Commemorated: May 3 (April 20, Old Style)
Life
Ivan Ganitsky, born in 1860 in Kiev province into a deacon's family, served as a teacher and treasury accountant before becoming a monk in 1899. He was abbot of several monasteries, including the Zlatoust monastery in Moscow from 1909, and in 1920 became bishop of Kolomna and Bronnitsy under the name Theodosius.
He was arrested more than once. In 1929 he was again accused of anti-Soviet activity among the monks and in 1930 was sentenced to five years, replaced by exile in the Northern Krai. Released in 1933, he lived in the village of Sushkovo, barred from serving as a bishop, and died there on 3 May 1937. He was canonized in 2006 as a confessor.
