Martyr Papas of Lyconia
Commemorated: March 29 (March 16, Old Style)
Life
Papas came from Laranda in Lycaonia, in Asia Minor, and lived under the emperor Maximian. For confessing his faith he was tried first in his native city, then at Diocaesarea and finally at Seleucia in Isauria. He was beaten with rods, torn with iron claws, made to walk a long road in boots studded with iron nails, and at last died tied to a tree, in the early 4th century.
Retold briefly in our own words from: the Lives of the Saints by St Dimitry of Rostov (1902–1916).
