Martyr Leonidas and the Holy Martyrs Charissa, Nike, Galina, Kalisa (Kalida), Nunekhia, Basilissa, and Theodora, and others at Corinth
Commemorated: April 29 (April 16, Old Style)
Life
The Church remembers Leonidas and a group of women martyrs, among them Charissa, Nike, Galina, Kalisa, Nunekhia, Basilissa, Theodora and Irene, as having been drowned in the sea at Corinth. The tradition dates their martyrdom to the persecution under Emperor Decius, in 251 by St Dimitry of Rostov and 258 in some calendars. Little more is told of them than their names and the manner of their death.
Retold briefly in our own words from: the Lives of the Saints by St Dimitry of Rostov (1902–1916).
