Martyr Hermias at Comana

Commemorated: June 13 (May 31, Old Style)

Life

Hermias was an elderly Christian soldier at Comana, which the Life places in Cappadocia and the Roman Martyrology in Pontus. The persecution under Emperor Antoninus brought the official Sebastian to the city, and he ordered Hermias to sacrifice to the Roman gods. Hermias answered that he was a soldier of the heavenly king.

His Life tells that he survived the furnace and cups of poison, and that a sorcerer, ordered to poison him, became a Christian and was beheaded. It tells that Hermias was tortured further, blinded and finally beheaded. The Christians buried him at Comana.
