Holy Martyrs Innas, Pinnas and Rimmas the Scythians

Commemorated: February 2 (January 20, Old Style), July 3 (June 20, Old Style)

Life

Inna, Pinna and Rimma came from Scythia, the land north of the Black Sea, and tradition counts them among the disciples of the Apostle Andrew. They preached Christ among their own people and baptized many, and were seized by a local prince who could not make them sacrifice to idols.

According to their Life, it was a hard winter, when the rivers froze so thick that horses and carts crossed on the ice. The prince had tall wooden posts set into the ice of a river and the three men tied to them. As the water rose and froze around them up to their necks, they died of the cold. They are thought to have suffered in the 1st or 2nd century.

Retold briefly in our own words from: the Lives of the Saints by St Dimitry of Rostov (1902–1916).
