Ras Safsafa
In the Bible
On the third day there was thunder, lightning and a thick cloud on the mountain; Moses brought the people out of the camp, and they stood at its foot.
Exod 19:16–17
On the third day, when morning came, there was thunder and lightning. A thick cloud was upon the mountain, and a very loud blast of the ram’s horn went out, so that all the people in the camp trembled. Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.Tradition
Some travelers since the 19th century have preferred this northern peak of the massif to Jebel Musa, because it rises straight above the plain where the people could stand.
Here today
The northern crags of the Jebel Musa massif, looking straight down on the plain of er-Raha.
