Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up on the mountain, sat down and began to teach: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

The Gospel names no mountain. By tradition, the sermon is remembered on this hill above Tabgha; a Byzantine chapel stood lower down the slope.
