Iviron Monastery
Tradition
By tradition, the Mother of God, sailing to visit Lazarus, was driven by a storm to this shore, and Athos became her garden. Pilgrims venerate the icon of the Portaitissa, kept in a chapel by the gate.
Here today
A monastery on the east coast, founded in 979/980 by Georgian monks, as the monastery gives it.
