In the Bible

On the way to the promised land Israel camped on the far side of the Arnon, the border between Moab and the Amorites.

Num 21:13From there they moved on and camped on the other side of the Arnon, in the wilderness that extends into the Amorite territory. Now the Arnon is the border between the Moabites and the Amorites.

Here today

A deep canyon crossed by the King's Highway on its way south; where it reaches the Dead Sea it is a nature reserve with a gorge walk.
