The Acropolis
In the Bible
Paul told the Athenians that the God who made the world does not live in temples made by human hands and is not served as if He needed anything.
Acts 17:24–25
The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples made by human hands. Nor is He served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. Here today
The Parthenon and the Erechtheion on the rock that Paul saw from the Areopagus; the Acropolis Museum lies at its foot.
Through the eyes of old pilgrims
When far on our road, we had a parting view of the Parthenon, with the moonlight streaming through its open colonnades and touching its capitals with silver.Mark Twain, The Innocents Abroad, 1869
