The Two Blind Men at Jericho (Les deux aveugles à Jericho)
James Tissot · 1886–1894
Brooklyn Museum, New York
Two blind men have climbed onto a rock by the road outside Jericho and stand with their arms flung up, calling out. Tissot painted them from behind, in striped robes, with tall date palms and the town wall beyond.
The crowd pours out through the gate towards them, and in the middle walks Jesus in white. At the edges some people sit and watch; one leans from the top of a wall.
