Virginmartyr Theodosia of Constantinople
Commemorated: June 11 (May 29, Old Style)
Life
Theodosia was born in Constantinople to parents who had long been childless and promised to give her to a convent. Her Life tells that she entered the convent of St Anastasia at seven and later spent her inheritance on the poor and on icons of Christ, the Mother of God and Anastasia.
Under Emperor Leo III, when the image of Christ above the Bronze Gate of the palace was ordered removed, the Life says that Theodosia and other women overturned the ladder of the officer sent to take it down, and he was killed in the fall. The emperor had her beaten for days. She died about 730, according to the Life struck in the throat with a goat's horn by a soldier.
