Commemorated: January 31 (January 18, Old Style), October 11 (September 28, Old Style)
Life
Cyril and Mary were the parents of Sergius of Radonezh. They belonged to the Rostov boyars, and Cyril served the princes of Rostov. According to the Life of Sergius, about 1330 they lost their wealth, left the Rostov land and settled at Radonezh, north-west of Moscow, where their sons Stephen, Bartholomew (the future Sergius) and Peter grew up. Tradition holds that in old age they took monastic vows at Khotkovo, where Stephen was already a monk, and died there, about 1337. The Russian Church canonized them in 1992.
