Venerable New Martyr Cyprian
Commemorated: June 16 (June 3, Old Style)
Life
Konstantin Nelidov was born in Kazan in 1901 and grew up in Nizhny Novgorod. As the hieromonk Cyprian he became a close disciple of Bishop Varnava (Belyaev), who kept a secret monastic community in a private flat after the monasteries were closed. In May 1933 the OGPU sentenced both of them to three years in the camps, accusing them of preparing young people for monastic life. Cyprian died on 16 June 1934 in a section of the Siberian labour camps on the Chuya.
