Orthodox · † 1628
Venerable Ienarchus, Abbot of Solovki
Commemorated: July 30 (July 17, Old Style)
Life
Irinarkh took his vows at the Solovki monastery on the White Sea and became its abbot in the early seventeenth century; a royal charter of 1621 told the monks to live in obedience to the abbot Irinarkh and the elders. Many monks grew up under his guidance, and Eleazar of Anzer founded his hermitage on the island of Anzer with Irinarkh’s blessing.
His Life says that he followed the way of life of the first founders of Solovki, Zosima and Savvaty, and that he spent his last two years in silent prayer. He died on 17 July 1628.
