Venerable David of Thessalonica
Commemorated: July 9 (June 26, Old Style)
Life
David came from the East and, according to his Life, lived as an ascetic from his youth. He settled about three versts outside Thessalonica, where he built a shelter under an almond tree, and people came to him for advice. The Life tells that once, before an emperor, he carried burning coals in his hands with incense on them and was not burned, and that the emperor bowed to him. He died peacefully in the sixth century, after a long life.
