St. Joanna the Myrrhbearer

Commemorated: July 10 (June 27, Old Style)

Life

Joanna is named in the Gospel of Luke as the wife of Chuza, a steward of Herod Antipas. She was one of the women whom Jesus had healed, who travelled with him and his disciples and supported them from their own means. Luke also lists her among the women who went to the tomb on the morning after the Sabbath and told the apostles what they had found. The Church remembers her as one of the myrrh-bearing women.
