Commemorated: June 20 (June 7, Old Style)
Life
Vladimir Nikolsky, born in 1870 near Myshkin in the Yaroslavl province, became the monk Andronicus, served in the Russian mission in Japan and was briefly bishop of Kyoto. From 1914 he was bishop, then archbishop, of Perm. In January 1918 he called on the faithful to defend churches and monasteries from seizure and ordered services to stop in the diocese if he were arrested.
The Cheka arrested him in June 1918. On the night of 20 June (7 June Old Style), outside Perm, he was told to lift his ban on services and refused; he was made to dig his own grave and was shot. With him the Church remembers priests, a deacon and laymen of the Perm diocese killed in 1918.
