Commemorated: April 28 (April 15, Old Style)
Life
Alexander Gnevushev, born in 1889 in the Simbirsk province into a priest's family, graduated from the Simbirsk seminary in 1912 and was ordained in 1914. He served in several parishes, and from 1925 was rector of the church of Paraskeva Friday in the village of Bryandino.
In January 1930 local activists of the Union of Militant Atheists tried to remove the church bells and strip him of his property as a 'kulak'. He was arrested in February and accused of leading a 'kulak group' and anti-Soviet agitation. An OGPU troika sentenced him to death on 15 April and he was shot at Ulyanovsk on 28 April 1930. He was canonized in 2004.
