New Hieroconfessor Victor, bishop of Glazov
Commemorated: May 2 (April 19, Old Style)
Life
Konstantin Ostrovidov was born in the Saratov region in 1875 (some sources give 1878), studied at the Kazan Theological Academy and took the name Victor as a monk in 1903. He served in Jerusalem and as abbot of Zelenets monastery, and was consecrated bishop in 1920; from 1921 he was bishop of Glazov.
He refused to accept Metropolitan Sergius's 1927 declaration of loyalty to the Soviet state. Arrested several times from 1922, he was held on the Solovki island camp from 1928, then exiled to the Northern Krai. He died of meningitis in the village of Neritsa on 2 May 1934. The Russian Church counted him among its confessors in 2000.
