Martyr Manetha of Cæsarea in Palestine
Commemorated: November 26 (November 13, Old Style)
Life
Manetha was a young woman from Scythopolis in Palestine who was arrested during the persecution under the emperor Galerius Maximian, around 307–308, together with three men, Antoninus, Nicephorus and Germanus, according to the account kept in the Church's tradition. The governor Firmilian tried to force them to sacrifice to idols.
The men were taken to Caesarea in Palestine and beheaded. Manetha was led naked through the city to shame her and was tortured; the Life says she came through unharmed. She was sentenced to be burned. According to the Life, she walked into the lit furnace herself.
