Martyr Diomedes the Physician of Tarsus in Cilicia
Commemorated: August 29 (August 16, Old Style)
Life
Diomedes was a Christian physician from Tarsus in Cilicia. Under Diocletian he moved to Nicaea in Bithynia, where, according to his Life, he treated the sick both with medicine and with prayer and brought many pagans to faith in Christ. When the emperor heard of him, he sent soldiers to arrest him. The Greek Life says they found him already dead and cut off his head to take to the emperor; the Roman Martyrology says that he was beheaded for the faith. He died c. 298.
