Hieromartyr Eutychius, disciple of the Apostle John the Theologian
Commemorated: September 6 (August 24, Old Style)
Life
Eutychius came from Sebastopolis and, according to St Dimitry's account, left his family to follow the apostle John the Theologian and later travelled and preached with the apostle Paul, so that he is counted a disciple of both. The apostles made him a bishop. His Life tells of imprisonment, beatings and fire, and of beasts that would not touch him. He was brought in chains from Ephesus to his native city, where, according to the hymns of his service, he was beheaded, in the 1st century. The Roman Martyrology says that after many sufferings he died in peace.
