Blessed Pelagia of Diveyevo
Commemorated: February 12 (January 30, Old Style)
Life
Pelagia Serebrennikova was born in 1809 in Arzamas into a merchant family. She married, but her children died in infancy. According to her Life, she visited Sarov, where she met Seraphim of Sarov, and he told her to go to his Diveevo convent and care for his "orphans", the sisters there. She lived at Diveevo as a fool for Christ, behaving in ways that seemed strange to others, and many people from all over Russia came to her for counsel. She died in 1884 and was the first of the three blessed women of Diveevo whom the Church has canonized.
