Blessed Maria of Diveyevo
Commemorated: September 8 (August 26, Old Style)
Life
Maria (Fedina, c. 1870–1931) was a peasant girl from the Tambov province, orphaned at fourteen, who wandered barefoot between Sarov, Diveyevo and Ardatov. Blessed Pasha of Sarov told her to stay at Diveyevo, and after Pasha's death in 1915 she settled there as a holy fool. She is remembered for foretelling the closing of the convent in 1927 and its revival many years later: told it would never reopen, she answered, 'It will! It will! It will!' After the closure she lived in nearby villages and died at Cherevatovo on 8 September 1931. She was canonized in 2004, and her relics are at Diveyevo.
