The Healing of Peter's Mother-in-law (La guérison de la belle-mère de Pierre)
James Tissot · 1886–1894
Brooklyn Museum, New York
In a small courtyard of rough stone, with stairs and a dark doorway, Jesus bends over Simon’s mother-in-law where she lies on a mat. He takes her hands and helps her to sit up.
Simon stands with his back to us in a black and white cloak, lifting a hand. Tissot added a black cat sitting on the wall above them.
